Academic
Skills – Prep. for Playwork / Childcare
Weekly
Teaching Schedule (2022-23) – semester one
2/9
- getting to know you, what we will cover, short writing exercise.
9/9
– TED talks – evaluating two short presentations
16/9
– effective and ineffective oral presentation delivery / PowerPoint use (visual
anchoring)
23/9 – holiday
30/9 – no class as I
will be recovering from dental surgery!
7/10
– planning a
presentation / research exercise (you choose one ‘subject’ from a choice of
five options). Introduction to College online resources.
14/10
– report writing skills / organising your work / research issues. Looking at some writing
submissions / referencing. Reflecting on exercise from 7/10 class. Research exercise discussed in class.
21/10 – October
holiday
28/10
– viewing an ‘inspiring’ talk, discussion, breaking down the content and
delivery for discussion.
4/11
– presentation or writing exercise
given out and discussed. The topic of your research will be ‘vocationally relevant’
and by this stage, you should all have an idea where your Playwork / Childcare interests
are focused. This gives you flexibility on what you would like to deliver your
talk on or write your report about.
11/11,
18/11, 25/11 - work on research exercise in class with my support.
2/12, 9/12, 16/12 – oral presentation delivery assessment
– I will split the class into three groups for this. You will only attend the
presentation slot you choose. 23/12
– holiday
13/1
– reflecting on the class – what went well, what could be improved, what did
you learn?
